Chelsea have completed the signing of highly-rated New
York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga.
The 20-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge for an
undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £3.5m, and has agreed a deal
until 2020.
Miazga told the Blues' website: "I am very happy to
sign for Chelsea, a world-famous club with a reputation for major success. I am
delighted to be in the Premier League, the best league in the world, and can’t
wait to meet my team-mates and get going.
“I want to say thank you to the entire New York Red Bulls
organization including all of my coaches, teammates and staff that were there
with me during my time with the club.

”
Miazga, who had entered the final year of his Red Bulls
contract, has been capped once by the United States but does not require a
work permit to play in the UK as he holds a Polish passport.
Scouts from Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and
Liverpool are all thought to have watched the New Jersey-born star, after he
impressed in his breakthrough MLS campaign
The early consensus is that Miazga will link up with the
Blues' first team for the remainder of the campaign, though he could go out on
loan at some stage, as is commonplace with many young signings at the club.
"He is a promising player," Hiddink said of Miazga
at his pre-MK Dons press conference.
"We’re not rushing but he will be one of the squad
members for the future.
"[He is a] young guy, stepping up to the national team.
"You can see what players are capable of in
training."
