Kurt Zouma has taken to Twitter to confirm that he sustained
an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in Sunday's match against
Manchester United.
The Chelsea defender's teammates looked on in apparent
horror as the 21-year-old was loaded onto a stretcher after landing awkwardly
and appearing to hyperextend his knee backwards.
He had appeared optimistic when speaking to L'Equipe after
the match, saying: “It is better. We will see. I heard something but I
feel better. I will undergo tests and we will know more," but he tweeted
on Monday evening: "Scan today has shown I injured my ACL. I will have
surgery this week & will come back stronger. Thank you everyone for all the
messages."

The club confirmed the story in a short statement on their official website, adding that they expected to see the Frenchman miss around six months of action - which would see him ruled out of the entirety of the summer's Euro 2016 tournament in his home country.
The statement read: "Chelsea Football Club's medical
team have diagnosed that Kurt Zouma sustained an injury to his
anterior cruciate ligament during yesterday’s (Sunday) Premier League game
against Manchester United.
"Kurt will undergo surgery in the next 48 hours and is
expected to be out for approximately six months."
The injury could give January signing Matt Miazga more of a
chance to establish his first-team credentials over the final portion of the
season, with Gary Cahill and John Terry looking like the main pairing going
forward for the club's Champions League, FA Cup and league campaigns.
With the advancing age of Terry in particular though, Miazga
will likely see gametime once he reaches match fitness as Guus Hiddink rotates
his pack to keep the veteran centre-back and club captain fresh.
