Black Stars move up in Fifa ranking

The Black Stars’ status in the Fifa ranking has been boosted by a double win in September
Ghana moved up by two places in the latest edition of the Fifa ranking released on Thursday.
The Black Stars moved to 25 spot from 27, having gained 22 points on the table.
A 3-2 win over Congo in Brazzaville in an exhibition encounter on September 1 and a narrow 1-0 victory over the Amavubi of Rwanda in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, helped to boost the points from 827 to 849.

On the continental level, the Black Stars still hold their third spot behind Algeria (19th) and Cote d’Ivoire (21st). Tunisia (36th), Senegal (38th), Cape Verde (41st), Cameroon (48th), Congo (49th), Egypt (51st) and Nigeria (52nd) make up the top ten of African teams in the ranking.
Ghana are expected to take on Canada in an international friendly on October 13 at the RFK Stadium, Washington, and a win over the Canucks is likely to further improve the four-time African champions’ standing.
Unconfirmed reports say the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists will play Peru in a similar exhibition encounter during the month.
On the global stage, Spain have moved back into the top 10 after three months. The 2008 European champions are now placed 6th, pushing Romania out to 13th.
Argentina, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Colombia, Spain, Brazil, Wales, Chile and England comprise the top ten.
The next edition of the ranking will be released on November 5.
