It’s
amazing; the way government tells us it’s so difficult to find money to
carry out many social interventionist and development programs, yet so
cavalierly keeps flying cash around the world.
When it comes to the Black Stars the rules of engagement are very different.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, and other government officials flew to Rwanda with $200,000 in cash to pay the Black Stars their winning bonuses in an attempt to forestall a repeat of the embarrassing circumstances in Brazil that could very well become a Hollywood movie.
The money was for the side beating Mauritius 7-1 back in June.
If you’ll recall, the much touted Dzamefe Commission which was set up at considerable expense to the taxpayer to look into exactly this kind of rot that permeated the Brazil fiasco, recommended using bank transfers to pay the Black Stars. It is only in Ghana that millions of cedis of expense has to be incurred to tell us what any person with an iota of sense should know.
Still, government does what it wants, when it wants, and anyone else can go to hell.
