According to Ghanaina singer Efya she never met her dad until she was 23 yrs. In an interview with
Myafricapodcast.com, the singer said, ‘’I met him when I was twenty-three. It was pretty much me and my mum. I was ten years old and she [her mum] got married again.’’
She continued; ’My mum calls me and she is like come over and meet someone. I am like ‘okay’. I asked who that is and she said ‘okay it’s Bab’s’. I said ‘when you say Babs, do you mean my dad?’ She said, ‘yes’. My mum said my dad was kinda in town and he was trying to see me. I was like okay…’’
‘’So I went over and he was like ‘hey what’s up?’. It was really normal for me. I didn’t have any epic moment. My mum and I were even laughing over it. I was like ‘hey nice to meet you’. I wasn’t [gonna be] all daddy and everything about it. ‘’ the musician added.
The singer seem to say it wasn't the fault of her dad,but his business duties kept him away for 23yrs, wow..i think puting your business before your child aint right!
The musician said “You know business and business. Lots of businesses and two kids and a wife’’ caused the father’s absence.
When the musician was asked whether the father’s long absence affected her life in anyway, she said; “there could have been things that I would have needed’’, and learned from him, ‘’…my mother was amazing and we had a lot of fun.’’ ‘’I think that really crowded the whole part of it and I had really amazing aunties who were really successful.’’
