The Minister of Food and Agriculture Fifi Kwetey has charged Ghanaian youth to take the mentality of getting white color jobs after graduating from their minds, and focus on venturing into private businesses, especially farming.
“The problem of unemployment as we know continuous to be one of a mindset, a mindset that has conditioned a lot of our young people to look towards others employing them as opposed to positioning themselves to take charge of their own destiny,” the former deputy finance minister told a gathering at the launch of the Ghana Agriculture Sector Investment Program.
About 540,000 jobs are to be created under the program. The project is expected to increase smallholder incomes on a sustainable basis by empowering the youth with equipment and incentives.
“We want to say that agriculture provides the best entry point for safe employment and it is in recognition of this that government continuous to provide various opportunities and various funding in other to support many of our young people,” Mr Kwetey noted.
The project which is a Government of Ghana and the International Fund for Agricultural Development initiative will run for six years.
